LASER
PRINTERS
POOR
PRINT QUALITY-Check the following: |
|
1) Is there any indication
that the toner cartridge(s) is low or empty?
Usually, but not always, there will be an error
message or light(s) on the printer operators
panel or an error message on the computer while
printing.
|
|
2) Even if a toner cartridge
has toner in it, the cartridge may still be
defective & cause print quality problems-Try
swapping out the toner cartridge with a new
replacement or temporarily 'borrow" one
from another printer of the same model.
|
3)
Remember that a new or relatively new toner
cartridge does not mean that it can't be defective. |
4)
Check the printer operator panel or the printer
properties on the computer to determine if the
printer is in 'toner saver or economode"
mode-This mode save on toner, but also lightens
the printed image approximately 50%. |
5)
Is the paper being used the correct weight and
finish per the users manual? |
| PAPER
FEED PROBLEMS/JAMS-Check the following: |
|
1) Is there any indication on the printer control
panel (error message/solid/blinking lights) or
the computer display, that there is a problem?
- Does the error indicate where the jam has happened?
If there are jam indications, open ALL of the
access doors/panels & remove any paper located.
Try to pull it our in the same direction that
it was initially feeding. If the paper tears and
comes out in pieces, reassemble the pieces (like
a puzzle) to ensure that you removed the complete
sheet. |
| 2)
Is the paper that you are using the correct weight
and dimensions per the users manual? |
| 3)
Is the paper being fed, free of tears, folds,
dog eared corners, or other imperfections that
could invrease the possibility of jams? |
| 4)
Is the media being fed through the proper path?
- Rigid media such as card stock, photo stock,
transparancies, lables should be fed through the
manual/multi-purpose path - This type of media
usually should NOT be loaded into a paper tray/cassette.
|
| 5)
Has the paper been "fanned" before loading
into the printer? |
| 6)
Prior to being loaded into the printer, is the
media being stored properly? It should be stored
in its original wrapper, flat, in an area that
is within humidity parameters required by the
printer manufacturer (look in the users manual). |
